Participation Criteria FAQ

 

HOW DO I KNOW IF I QUALIFY?

  • First, you need to make sure your address is found within the boundaries of the Upper District. Review the District Map to find out.

  • Second, check the list of qualifying criteria by reviewing the participation guidelines.

  • If you still have questions, please call EcoTech toll free at 866-308-8391.

WHAT IF THE WATER BILL IS UNDER SOMEONE ELSE’S NAME? 

You may still apply, with the following restrictions:

  • The address on the applicant’s ID needs to match the water service address.

  • Or, a signed authorization form where account holder grants permission to applicant to
    apply for this Program.  The authorization form is available for download here.

I LIVE IN AN APARTMENT, DOES THE PROPERTY QUALIFY FOR THE PLANT VOUCHER PROGRAM?

Yes, the apartment complex qualifies.  However, the owner or manager of the apartment complex is responsible for applying.  The owner or manager will also need to provide a copy of the facility’s water bill.

Do I qualify if I use my residence as a business? 

You must be living on the property to be eligible to participate.

Can I have my tenant come pick out the plants?

Yes, but the tenant needs to get a signed authorization form from the landlord and submit to EcoTech. The authorization form is available for download here.

Can I split the plants between two properties?

No, you must request two separate vouchers, each with its own voucher #.

IS UPPER DISTRICT MY WATER COMPANY?

No, Upper District is not a retail water company. Upper District does NOT serve water directly to end-user customers. There are over thirty water companies within Upper District.  Review the District Map for more information

MY NEIGHBORS DON’T HAVE INTERNET, CAN THEY STILL PARTICIPATE?

Yes, interested residents can apply by calling EcoTech toll free at 866-308-8391. The process may take longer considering that hard copy items may have to be mailed between the applicant and EcoTech.

I live in a community that has an HOA, do I qualify?

If you pay for water directly to the water company, you may apply. If the HOA pays the water directly to the water company, the HOA will have to sign an authorization form granting you permission to participate. The authorization form is available for downloading here. In either case, the HOA will need to provide you a copy of the facility’s water bill. Please note that the Program is not responsible for any landscaping restrictions by your HOA.

I have two properties within Upper District, can I get apply for each property?

Yes, every individual residential property is eligible to participate. You have to apply for each residential property.  The same qualification criteria and guidelines apply to each residential property.

I can’t find my latest water bill; can I use an older water bill? 

Yes, you can provide an older water bill, preferably a water bill not older than six months.

 

Plant Information FAQ

 

Can I use any of these plants indoors?  

Plants provided are designed to be installed outdoors.  The premise of the program is outdoor water conservation.

Can I get some of my plants now and some later?

No, the plant voucher can only be redeemed once.  All plants must be picked up at the same time.

How much space will $250 worth of plants take up?

It depends on plant size and/or type, please see examples on website.

Are drought-tolerant plants toxic to my pets?  

Most are not toxic. Please research your plant choices prior to picking them up from the nursery to be safe.

Can I give my plants to other people?

No, all plants must be planted at the address approved by the Program.  Plants need to be installed at the water service address that matches the address on the voucher application.

Some of my plants were stolen from my yard before I could plant them, can I get more/replacements? 

Unfortunately, no.  The voucher can only be redeemed once.

Do I have to do anything to prep my current soil for drought-tolerant plants?  

Adding an organic amendment to current soil would be favorable if there is heavy clay or heavy sand presence.

Can you install the plants for me?

Yes, EcoTech can install, please inquire about cost.

 

Voucher Redemption FAQ

 

How long do I have to redeem my voucher?

Plant vouchers must be redeemed within 120 days of the issue date listed on the voucher.

Can I pick up my voucher at the Nursery or at Upper District?

No. Vouchers are only approved and provided by EcoTech.

Can I purchase drought-tolerant trees or shrubs with my voucher?

Yes, as long as the plants are listed on the approved drought-tolerant plant list. Please keep in mind that larger containers (15 gal) cost more and you may end up taking fewer containers home.

Can I pick up my voucher? My printer isn’t working, and I don’t have a smartphone. 

Yes, make an appointment with EcoTech and we will have it prepared for you when you arrive. Only EcoTech approves and provides vouchers (not the nursery).

I’m physically unable to get to the nursery, can I have someone else pick my plants?

Yes, the voucher can be redeemed by someone else as long you sign the authorization form.  The authorization form is available for downloading here.

The nursery says I’ve already redeemed my voucher, but I haven’t, what do I do? 

Please contact EcoTech.

What happens if I can’t use all of the $250 voucher?

Unfortunately, there is no monetary value to the remaining voucher and the remaining amount is void.

 

Nursery FAQ

 

What if I want more plants from the nursery above the $250 voucher?

You may purchase extra plants from the nursery at your expense.

What if I want a plant that the nursery doesn’t have? 

Unfortunately, all plant selections must be from the only participating nursery and all selections must be from the approved plant list.

Where is the nursery located and what time does it open or close?

Can the nursery deliver the plants to my home?

You will need to ask the Nursery, there may be an extra charge for this service.
